Required Prevention Courses

As you prepare for your arrival at UMBC, there are some health-related requirements that you must meet before you arrive on campus. All new students must complete the required prevention courses.

Undergraduate students must complete the following: Alcohol Wise, Cannabis Wise, and Other Drugs. Graduate students must complete the Other Drugs prevention course. Courses open July 7, 2023.

Alcohol Wise

The prevention course, Alcohol Wise, is designed to educate students about the dangers of misusing alcohol. Alcohol Wise goes on to mention UMBC campus alcohol policies, bystander strategies, and how to call for help. This course is based on evidence-based prevention strategies that have been proven effective. ALL first-time, first-year, and transfer undergraduate students are to complete this course.

Access Alcohol Wise

Upon completion of this course, you DO NOT need to send a copy of your completion certificate to Retriever Integrated Health.

Cannabis Wise

The prevention course, Cannabis Wise, is designed to educate students about the risks related to the use of cannabis. This course includes information on the dangers of high-potency cannabis, harmful behaviors associated with cannabis use, cannabis use disorder (CUD), and the impact of cannabis use on mental health and academic performance. ALL first-time, first-year, and transfer undergraduate students are to complete this course.

Upon completion of this course, you DO NOT need to send a copy of your completion certificate to Retriever Integrated Health.

Other Drugs

The prevention course, Other Drugs, is designed to use evidence-based strategies to educate students about the dangers of misusing drugs, including opioids. This course will provide students with information about the negative impacts of other drug use on one’s mental health, physical health, and academic success. ALL first-time, first-year, and transfer undergraduate students and graduate students are to complete this course.
